AfriYAN Ethiopia Chapter Launches This Thursday,

The African Youth and Adolescents Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN) Ethiopia Chapter will be launched on the upcoming Thursday, 29th August 2024.

This special event is scheduled to take place at Mado Hotel, with the presence of various high-level guests and partner organizations, including H.E W/ro Muna Ahmed, State Minister for Youth Affairs, Mr. Koffi Kouame, UNFPA Resident Representative to Ethiopia, and AfriYAN representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Our organization, TaYA, has worked with our donor, UNFPA, to establish AfriYAN’s Ethiopia Chapter. Youths from around the country have joined to be part of this chapter, and they will select an executive committee to represent them on the launching day to facilitate their future engagement.

What is AfriYAN

The African Youth and Adolescents Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN) is a youth-led network dedicated to empowering young people across Africa. 

It will amplify the voices of youth in national and regional development, AfriYAN focuses on issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, youth empowerment, and meaningful participation in decision-making processes.

Mission

To mobilize and equip African youth with the knowledge, skills, and platforms necessary to influence policies and programs that affect their lives, particularly in the areas of population and development.

A transformed Africa where young people are empowered, their rights are respected, and they actively contribute to sustainable development.

Core Objectives

Advocacy

Amplify youth voices in policy dialogues at national, regional, and global levels.

Capacity Building

Provide training and resources to enhance the leadership skills of young people.

Networking

Foster collaboration among youth organizations, governments, and international bodies to address challenges facing African youth.

Awareness Raising

Promote SRHR and gender equality through campaigns, workshops, and educational programs.

Partnerships and Collaborations

AfriYAN Ethiopia Chapter will work closely with key stakeholders, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), African governments, civil society organizations, and other youth networks, to achieve its mission.

These partnerships will be crucial in ensuring that the voices of African youth are heard and that they have a seat at the table in discussions that affect their future.
